Frequently asked questions
NHS flu vaccination FAQs
Do I need an appointment?
You can walk in and speak with our team. We recommend calling ahead on 01902 340101 to confirm vaccine stock and pharmacist availability, particularly at busy times.
When should I have my vaccination?
Most eligible adults can receive their NHS flu vaccine from 1 October 2026. It is best to have it as soon as you can during the programme so you are protected through winter.
Can the injected flu vaccine give me flu?
No. The injected flu vaccines used in the UK do not contain live flu viruses and cannot give you flu.
What are the common side effects?
The most common side effects are mild and usually improve within 1 to 2 days. They can include soreness where the injection was given, a slightly raised temperature and an aching body.
What if I feel unwell on the day?
If you have a high temperature, wait until you are feeling better before having the vaccine. Speak with the pharmacist if you are unsure.
